Bodegas Peñafalcón is an independent family winery located in Peñafiel, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin. Officially founded in 2000 by Casimiro and his wife María José Arranz, the winery draws on a generational legacy stretching back to the 17th century, when their ancestors were already crafting wine in traditional stone cellars in the region. The name Peñafalcón itself is a journey into the medieval past: historical records show that the village bore this name in the 11th century before becoming known as Peñafiel. The toponym, meaning «rock with a falcon perched at its summit», perfectly encapsulates the spirit of a winery deeply proud of its land and heritage. Peñafalcón's winemaking philosophy is rooted in a profound respect for the land and for traditional cultivation methods. From its very beginnings, the winery has embraced organic viticulture: rows are worked by hand, herbicides are entirely avoided, and sheep manure is used as a natural fertilizer. This unwavering commitment to the environment yields exceptional-quality grapes from privileged vineyard plots such as Santa Cruz, Carraovejas and Blanqueras, where Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are cultivated. Among its most acclaimed wines is the Peñafalcón Siglo XI range, which includes the Crianza aged 24 months in barrel, the Reserva aged 36 months, and the exclusive Gran Reserva with up to five years of ageing. These wines express the unique personality of the Ribera del Duero terroir and the artisanal passion with which Casimiro and his family carry on a centuries-old tradition. International recognition speaks to the quality of their wines: Bodegas Peñafalcón has accumulated more than 56 Super Gold and Gold awards in national and international competitions, including the Gran Oro Internacional, the Catavinum World Wine Spirits Competition and the International Wine Guide. Over 70% of production is exported to markets across Europe, Asia and the United States.
