“A rare single-vineyard Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero — minimal intervention, chalky mineral depth and a silky, age-worthy finish.”

Nose
Focused bouquet of ripe dark cherry, plum and blackcurrant underpinned by chalky minerality and a subtle gunflint note. Graceful oak adds warm spice without masking the varietal fruit.
Palate
Medium- to full-bodied with a velvety, fluid mouthfeel. Refined, grippy tannins and a lively, well-integrated acidity that lends precision and energy to the mid-palate.
Finish
Long, mineral and persistent finish with lingering notes of ripe fruit and gentle spice. Age-worthy — approachable now but with clear potential to develop further complexity over several years.
Naluar El Espaldón 2020 is a single-parcel Tempranillo sourced exclusively from the El Espaldón vineyard in Nava de Roa, a village nestled within the Ribera del Duero appellation in Castile. The wine is the work of Rafael García and Raúl Tamayo, two winemaker-viticulturists who founded their micro-winery in 2011 with a clear and uncompromising vision: to craft terroir-driven wines that speak honestly of their origin, with as little interference as possible.
The estate's vines grow at elevations between 750 and 830 metres, subject to the harsh continental climate of the Duero plateau — scorching summer days, cold nights, and a short but intense growing season that yields grapes of exceptional concentration and natural freshness. The nine parcels, each barely over a hectare, are farmed with meticulous attention, and total production across all wines remains below 12,000 bottles, making each release genuinely scarce.
On the nose, El Espaldón 2020 offers a focused bouquet of ripe red and dark fruit — plum, blackcurrant and dark cherry — laced with chalky mineral notes and a subtle hint of gunflint that betrays the limestone-rich soils beneath the vines. The oak influence is graceful and well-integrated, adding layers of warm spice without overwhelming the varietal character. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied with a velvety, fluid mouthfeel, grippy yet refined tannins and a lively acidity that keeps everything precise and energetic. The finish is long, mineral and persistent — the hallmark of a genuinely terroir-expressive wine.

The Winery
Founded in 2011
Rafael García y Raúl Tamayo is a small yet highly ambitious winery project founded in 2011 in Nava de Roa, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin. Its two creators, devoted viticulturists and winemakers, chose to work with family-owned vineyards to build an artisanal estate guided by a minimalist philosophy. From the very beginning, both partners took full hands-on responsibility for every task in the vineyard and the cellar, giving the project a level of authenticity and coherence that is truly rare. The winery's viticultural patrimony is modest yet extraordinarily precious: just 4 hectares spread across 9 tiny plots, planted at altitudes ranging from 750 to 830 metres above sea level. Among these small treasures stands Acediano, a vineyard over 70 years old that embodies the full depth and memory of the terroir. The extreme continental climate, with sharp temperature contrasts between day and night, encourages a slow ripening process that yields wines of great freshness, balance and varietal character, with Tinta Fina — Tempranillo — as the leading grape. The winemaking philosophy rests on minimal intervention, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, with the aim of preserving the biodiversity of the vines and faithfully expressing the soils and environments in which the grapes are grown. Oak plays a secondary role, used solely as a refining element, always allowing the fruit and the primary expression of the terroir to take centre stage. Production is limited to approximately 17,000 bottles, distributed across their main wines: Naluar, Naluar El Espaldón and Acediano. The latter has garnered extraordinary international acclaim, earning scores such as 96 from Tim Atkin, 96 from Peñín, 95 Parker points and 17.5 from Jancis Robinson, establishing itself as one of the most exciting references in contemporary Ribera del Duero.
