The TRENEL Mâcon-Villages 2024 is a terroir-driven Chardonnay from one of Burgundy's most storied négociant houses. Maison Trénel, founded in 1928 and now under the stewardship of the Chapoutier family since 2015, has spent nearly a century crafting honest, expressive wines that speak clearly of their origins in the southern reaches of Burgundy. This Mâcon-Villages white is no exception — it is a wine that delivers Burgundian elegance at an accessible level, making it a compelling buy for lovers of classic French white wine.
Sourced from vineyards planted on the limestone and clay soils characteristic of the Mâconnais, this 100% Chardonnay captures the freshness and subtle mineral tension that define the appellation. The 2024 vintage, shaped by the continental climate of the region, yields a wine that is vibrant, focused and beautifully balanced — a fine example of why Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay continues to attract attention from wine lovers across Europe.
On the nose, the wine opens with an inviting bouquet of white flowers and fresh citrus — lemon zest, grapefruit — layered with hints of ripe pear and a delicate stony minerality. The mouthfeel is smooth and gently rounded, with a crisp acidity that keeps everything lively and precise. A touch of cream and subtle buttery richness on the mid-palate adds depth without heaviness. The finish is clean and lingering, with notes of lemon and light crème fraîche that leave a refreshing impression.
Food-friendly and versatile, this wine pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, grilled sea bass, soft cheeses such as brie or goat's cheese, and light pasta dishes in cream-based sauces. It also shines as a standalone aperitif, particularly when served well-chilled between 8 and 11°C.

The Winery
Founded in 1928
Maison Trénel is one of the most iconic wine houses in southern Burgundy, founded in 1928 by Henri Claudius Trénel in Charnay-les-Mâcon. For nearly a century, the maison has upheld an unwavering philosophy: to craft honest wines that faithfully express the character of each plot and the authenticity of its terroir. In 2015, Maison Trénel was acquired by Michel Chapoutier, the renowned winemaking family from the Rhône Valley, becoming part of the Chapoutier group. Under this new stewardship, the maison has deepened its artisanal commitment and its attention to the nuances between individual vineyard sites, bringing its wines to ever greater heights of international recognition. Trénel's work focuses on the Gamay and Chardonnay varieties, the defining grapes of southern Burgundy and northern Rhône. The house is an undisputed reference in Beaujolais, producing no fewer than seven of the ten recognised Beaujolais Crus. Among its most celebrated wines is the Crémant de Bourgogne, sourced from the subregion where Chardonnay finds its finest expression, with a ageing period three times longer than required by the appellation rules. The portfolio also includes Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Charnay Clos de Champgrenon, Viré-Clessé and Morgon, covering a broad spectrum of Burgundian appellations. Beyond its wines, Trénel is also renowned for its artisanal production of Burgundy fruit liqueurs, most notably an exceptional IGP Crème de Cassis widely regarded as one of the finest in the world. Authenticity of fruit, respect for the vineyard and pure expression of origin are the guiding principles behind every wine crafted at Maison Trénel, making it an essential reference for lovers of great Burgundy and Beaujolais.
