Bodegas Nidia Wines
Bodegas Nidia is a small family-run project located on the La Cabaña estate in Medina del Campo (Valladolid), within the Rueda Denominación de Origen. The vineyard's history dates back to 1988, when the family committed to viticulture on this property. However, it was not until 2010 that young winemaker Daniel Torío began commercially producing wines under the Nidia label, driven by his belief in the exceptional potential of the family's vines. The La Cabaña terroir is a defining element: clay soils with the presence of rounded pebbles and high calcium content, situated close to the Adaja River at an altitude of over 770 metres. The continental climate, with significant diurnal temperature variations, combined with vineyards planted during the 1980s and 1990s and tended with meticulous care over the decades, provides the outstanding raw material that shapes every Nidia wine. The philosophy at Nidia is clear and uncompromising: to craft special, authentic, and 100% varietal wines. In the winery, tradition is combined with the latest technological advances, favouring slow fermentations of approximately 20 days at controlled temperatures between 14 °C and 15 °C, to preserve the full fruity character and varietal expression of each vintage. Among the most celebrated wines is Nidia de Guarda, a 100% Verdejo aged on its lees from vines over 30 years old, conceived to showcase the ageing potential of great white wines on a world stage. The range also includes a fresh Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, and reds from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2011 vintage firmly established Nidia as one of the finest and most consistent boutique Verdejo producers in Spain, with wines admired for their vibrant aromatic profile, offering orchard fruit and citrus notes intertwined with clean mineral character. A benchmark producer for lovers of Rueda Verdejo at its most expressive.
